WHAT IS THE LACUNA METHOD?
In the footcare industry it is the name given to a method for treating fungal nail infections.
WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?
Each infected toe nail has several micro holes drilled into them so that the anti fungal spray (terbinafine 1% known as Lamisil) can be applied over the nail and it then passes through the holes, spreading under the nail and reaching the infected area. The Lamisil is then applied on a daily basis until the infection is clear.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The follow up visit consists of my regular footcare session where any footcare issues are dealt with; hard skin, nail cutting, etc. Plus a monitoring of the treatment for each toe, which may, in some cases, involve more micro holes needing to be drilled.
Your initial bottle of Lamisil at 1% spray is included in the treatment fee. However, any subsequent bottles will have to be purchased. Either from Heel the Soles or any reputable chemists.
Due to different growth speeds of toe nails, treatment might be required beyond 6 months.
WHY IS IT SO EFFECTIVE?
Because the antifungal spray can pass through the impenetrable surface of the nail through the micro holes it reaches the fungal infection. Other treatments do not.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK?
Because toe nails grow slowly, this can take at least 6 months (sometimes longer) for the damaged nails to grow out.
YOUR TREATMENT WITH THERESA FROM HEEL THE SOLES
Theresa has completed the Lacuna Method for Fungal Nail Training course, as only Lacuna method trained foot care professionals should carry out this procedure.
After an initial consultation with Theresa. Your first Lacuna Method appointment will be made, where Theresa will make the necessary micro holes to each infected toe and apply the Lamisil. You will then need to see Theresa every 6 weeks for routine footcare, nail cutting, and monitoring of the fungal nails (this may include further micro holes needing to be made as the nail grows).
At your initial appointment Theresa will go through everything with you and leave you a Lacuna method information pack which will include full post treatment information and advice for you to follow.
It should be noted, that whilst results have proved to be very successful it cannot be 100% guaranteed that the treatment will work. Nor that a fungal infection will not return. Especially if the patient does not follow the post treatment advice given.
